You came back!!! Today’s post is really simple because the progress I have made is minimal yet relevant. Even though my group and I are still deciding on a layout and a magazine name, I decided to actually create my ideas. Instead of telling them, I thought actually showing them my ideas would be much easier to understand and to visualize. I did struggle a bit because since we do not have ANY part of the layout decided yet, I was conflicted on whether to actually take the time to make them. But again, I rather make them and have my group something they can actually look at than just be guided by my explanations.
I took inspiration from this table of contents. I really liked the clean lines and layering of the pictures as well as the sections. Having an “On the Cover” section I thought was so clever since a lot of the times the cover is what draws people in.
Obviously, I can edit the colors of the font later, but I played around with some fonts layering and I ended up with this T.O.C. Since I don’t have the images yet, I couldn’t layer them and add page numbers on them or anything, but this is a basic layout of what my idea was for the T.O.C. I think its simplicity is what makes it pristine and actually holds its function: to easily guide the reader to a certain story. I don’t know if my T.O.C will only be one page of actual contents, but I do want to include an ad or 2 since most beauty and fashion magazines advertise many products.
As for this 2-page spread, I really enjoyed the sectioning of the text and the pictures on the side. The colors used make it have a bold tone to it which I also enjoyed and plan on working on. I did not include a second page to this on my example because having one page for only one image doesn’t work with my story. This example has a story about a person, which is much easier to have a dedicated picture for.
These are my layout ideas. I have a couple of pages because I was thinking I can always combine the pages or continue playing around with the layout of the text to make it work. I had the same play on words I will have in the cover, which continues to attract the reader. Also, the company information section is what will continue the advertisement for the story, which will probably be written with some interview quotes. Again, the colors can change, but I used some that would make sense for my issue, which is spring, but I could always alter them in correlation to my images and the rest of the magazine.
I know this one was brief, but my progress is just stuck right now and I am in the middle of figuring everything out. This is so stressful, but the fun and anticipation for the outcome totally outweigh it!
