Production Ideas!

Hi, it’s nice to have you back! For today’s post, I’m going to explain some of the production ideas I have gathered as I brainstormed different designs and schemes for my magazine. The following ideas are based mostly on the photos that I will be taking, but for the magazine, the pictures are beyond important.
In regards to the quality of the pictures, my mom has experience with photography and really enjoys it so she will be letting me borrow her camera which will come in handy. It is a “Canon” camera and she doesn’t have any special lens to go along with it but that isn’t a problem because there won’t be any pictures that will be requiring a special focus or anything of that sort. If one day I don’t have the camera or its battery dies or anything else goes wrong, I plan on using my phone. I have an iPhone 7 Plus which has a high-quality camera and if I do change my mind about the focus or if I am taking a picture of a specific product, I can resort to the portrait mode. As for lighting, I have 2 desk lamps that will work because they are not only extremely bright and have warmer lights, but they are bendy, which will allow much more control when trying to manipulate the direction of the light. Another one of my considerations for the lighting was a lightbox. In my interior design class, we use a light box to take high-quality pictures of our projects and they come out bright, clear, and look more professional. The convenient part about a light box is that I can use either the camera or my phone for the actual photo, but I can take a normal front angle of the subject, or I can take it from above, not necessarily creating a high angle, but it allows for a better background. The light box I used in my class is really useful because of its opening at the top and the front, but also because it was a large box and it had cool lights. Using cool lights allows for a better quality picture of a product, in the sense that it will be the main focus and the cool light makes it almost more majestic. An idea regarding the process of taking the pictures is that for a product such as the powder, I can take one from above to show the top of the container and the powder itself but then also one from the front to show a perspective of how big the container would be, etc. If I need to take a picture of the makeup looks I will create, (this is going to sound bizarre) I can have the model stick their head through the front and I will use the top opening to take the picture. It sounds more complicated than it is, but if I get the right light box that has the openings on the right sides, then it is possible to do. Amazon was my go-to choice to find a lightbox, and the more professional ones are up to $120, but there were a couple that were basic, yet they had the light and the right cutouts. I don’t need anything TOO elaborate, but with what I found on Amazon, the pictures will turn out amazing. My search for the right light box will continue and we will see if I end up buying one!
These are some of the styles that Amazon sells for a good price and they include lights, tripods, etc.

As for the cover image, I still don’t have the exact photo planned, but some areas I would like to further examine if they would work is the park in my community that has hills and is covered with trees and flowers or the bushes that line my backyard. The bushes would act like the typical “green wall background”. I am not too focused on the background for that right now since my group and I haven’t even decided on a name or layout yet so I will leave that for a future post.
I am also extremely satisfied that 3 of my friends agreed to be my models! Now I have the exact faces, skin colors, and bodies that I will have to style, so the process will become much easier when the photoshoots take place because I have the time to plan out the outfits, alterations, makeup looks, etc.
My excitement has not gone down and I cannot wait to talk with my group so we can finally at least come up with a name because that would spark some inspiration for the cover image!
Wish me luck,
Tini
